Iuav library

Iuav library holds over 220.000 books, almost 5.000 journals, 33.000 graduation theses, 3.000 videos and its collections are constantly growing.

Conveniently located at Tolentini, it has 380 reading places and 17 computer stations, yet during the pandemic, access to the library is limited to a restricted number of users and reservation is required.

 

An essential resource for teaching, study, research, Iuav library is a reference point at national level especially in the fields of architecture, urban planning, design, fashion, visual and performative arts.

 

The library is also a meeting place that offers the opportunity to enjoy exhibitions, book presentations and other cultural events to promote Iuav activities and encourage public debate and cultural exchange.

 

 

 

Institutional users are automatically admitted to the library and its services by the Library Card, a Iuav personal account to access the online services, which is necessary for loans, consultation, e-resources, etc.

 

Open-shelf books and periodicals can be consulted freely, while a registration is required to read or borrow stored books and periodicals: requests for stored items are to be placed through the Venice SBN catalogue.

 

 

 

Scanner/photocopiers are available. The service is subject to a fee and self-service.

Copies are permitted only for documents owned by the library, for personal use and in accordance with Italian copyright regulations.

 

 

 

The reference service provides information on the resources available or for specific bibliographic searches. Requests can be placed by email (infobiblioteca@iuav.it), or directly at the library desks located at the entrance or in the reading rooms.

 

Interlibrary-loan and document delivery is available to access items that are not owned by Iuav Library of any other library in Venice (ill-dd@iuav.it). The service is reserved to institutional users.

 

 

 

Public use computers are available for all users to search Venice SBN Catalogue and place requests for books and periodicals.

Some computers are dedicated to registered users only to access bibliographic databases and other resources.

Wifi connection is also available.

 

 

 

Venice SBN Catalogue is a part of the National Library Service (SBN). Books, periodicals and audiovisuals owned by Iuav Library and of other Venetian libraries can be searched. Other online resources are also available, some of them to Iuav users only: databases, e-books, e-journals and other resources as well as the Institutional Research Archive (AIR) that collects the university research products.

 

Iuav Library produces the most important Italian architecture and urban planning periodical index, in cooperation with Coordinamento Nazionale Biblioteche di Architettura – CNBA (Italian Association of Architecture Libraries). The database is updated with more than 7.000 new records every year.

 

Primo is Iuav online catalogue for simultaneous and integrated search for all resources, printed and digital, local and external: printed books and periodicals, videos, journal abstracts, theses, architectural archives, cartography, photographs, Iuav research products, e-books and electronic periodicals, journal articles etc.

 

 

 

Recommendations for acquisition of books can be submitted by filling the form on Venice SBN Catalogue by writing an email to biblioteca.acquisizioni@iuav.it

All recommendations are carefully considered by librarians.

 

 

 

Iuav library organizes events, including exhibitions, public talks, meetings, workshops, conferences, guided tours and much more.

The main objective is to promote the library collections, Iuav publications and research activities.

 

 

 

Iuav library promotes cooperation and projects to improve and develop the information on architecture, urban planning, design, fashion, visual and performative arts.

A member of the Servizio Bibliotecario Nazionale – SBN (National Library Service) and of Coordinamento Nazionale Biblioteche di Architettura – CNBA (Italian Association of Architecture Libraries), Iuav Library has agreements with the University of Padua and with Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.
