Fashion as a Symptom

90s Aesthetics Today

Cotonificio, aula H1

Lecture by Kacper Andruszczak

By the end of 2025, fashion increasingly evokes the spirit of 1997 through contemporary media and performance. Drawing on Richard Schechner’s performance theory, the lecture focuses on 1990s aesthetics and the enduring influence of Alexander McQueen. It also looks at contemporary designers like Iris van Herpen, Materies Fecales, and Dilara Fındıkoğlu. It portrays fashion as both a symptom and an agent of evolving cultural and aesthetic narratives.

Kacper Andruszczak is a PhD candidate and lecturer at the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (Lublin, Poland) and International School of Costume and Fashion Design (Warsaw, Poland). He has received scholarships from the French and Italian governments and conducted research at leading institutions in New York.
