A unique degree programme in Italy, in which theoretical teaching is interwoven with a rich offer of workshops, seminars and labs led by artists and professionals from the international scene: the Master's degree in Theatre and Performing Arts at Iuav sits at the crossroads of the arts system and the skills of contemporary theatre, open to the languages and practices of the present.
The programme fosters exchange and interaction between the academic world and the national and international artistic, theatrical and performing arts scene.
Over the two years of study, you will become part of a community working on the development and renewal of the artistic practices and stage-based thinking of tomorrow.
The teaching programme is enriched by both theoretical and practice-based courses, with a strong openness to critical gender and decolonial perspectives.
Theoretical courses are taught by scholars engaged in contemporary interdisciplinary research and experimentation (theatre, dance, sound, choreography, set design, film). Workshops are led by leading figures on the contemporary scene. The teaching offer is further strengthened by a rich programme of summer camps, artistic residencies, workshops, masterclasses and work placements in Italy and abroad.
The course responds to the demand for new skills required by the contemporary scene. Its multidisciplinary structure offers you innovative training in artistic, design-based and technical practices, as well as in theatre curatorship and communication: to become an artist, performer, dramaturg, choreographer, lighting designer, sound designer or multimedia designer; or to work as a curator, project manager, or communications and promotion specialist.
Studying theatre and performing arts in Venice means living a unique educational experience in a unique city — one often reduced to being the stage par excellence, yet one that also proves to be ideal ground for exploring and enacting a collective reflection on the complexities of the contemporary human and social condition.

University contribution
For the 2026/2027 academic year, the total university contribution is 2806,18 euro. Tuition is the same for all degree programmes and is divided into three instalments. The total amount varies according to students’ economic conditions and academic merit. More information on tuition fee reductions.

Student evaluation of teaching is one of the measures adopted by the University for teaching quality assurance, monitoring results and learning processes, and internal evaluation. Students of all degree programmes (except newly enrolled students) complete an annual questionnaire that gives the University a broad overview of teaching, services, and overall functioning.
Led by Silvia Calderoni and Ilenia Caleo, and inspired by the work of Alejandra Pizarnik, the workshop offered an immersive experience open to the public, exploring sleep, altered states, hypnosis and performative inventions, and engaged students on the Master’s degree course in Theatre and Performing Arts in a collective reflection on the body, the voice and the threshold between presence and absence.
