How Can Sound Change Our Vision of Space
Mohammed Boubezari, Universidade Lusófona
The talk proposes to overturn a common reflex: thinking about space primarily through vision.
Because the audible field often extends beyond what is visible, sound reshapes how we read volumes, boundaries, distances, and uses—especially in domestic space.
By bringing together ambiance theory and field investigations, it presents a method for describing sonic situations (spatial data, measurements, perceptions, practices) and highlights sonic topologies, in which the “limit of audibility” becomes a key qualitative criterion for linking built form, perceived form, and represented form.
