An introduction to maritime spatial planning

Ready to start

Maritime spatial planning (MSP) is an innovative evidence-based approach that focuses on the spatial organization of anthropogenic activities at sea, promoting their sustainable development, and increasing synergies among maritime activities while limiting environmental interactions.

The course aims at providing knowledge in understanding the MSP process, starting from an ecosystem-based management perspective. An overview of the marine environment features will be introduced, along with relevant maritime use descriptions, the spatial data representation, and the MSP legal framework.

Held in English every Friday afternoon from 3.30 to 6.30 pm, will be based on the Mediterranean Sea as a model basin for MSP implementation, by selecting examples within this geographical area.
