Architecture for adaptation: designing resilient futures in the lagoon

On 5 June 2026, from 3.00 to 6.00 p.m., at Tolentini, Università Iuav di Venezia will host the workshop “Architecture for adaptation: designing resilient futures in the lagoon”, organised with Youth4Climate/UNDP on the occasion of Venice Climate Week – Planet Aqua, Planet Peace.

Participants will work in small groups on design scenarios related to Venice and the lagoon, approaching climate-responsive design as a multidimensional challenge that integrates environmental, social, economic, aesthetic and spatial considerations.

Through a hands-on design activity, the workshop will invite students to reflect on issues such as heat, flooding and water-related risks, public space resilience, cultural heritage, infrastructure, social vulnerability, aesthetic quality and the cultural value of space.

The initiative includes a certificate of participation, a networking moment with UN professionals, and the possibility to take part in an international follow-up event planned for October.

The workshop will be held in English and is open to Iuav bachelor’s and master’s students from all degree programmes (architecture, urban planning, design, visual arts).

Participation is limited to 25 participants.
