In occasione della 59. Biennale di Venezia 2022 – Padiglione della Romania, l'artista e film maker Adina Pintilie, insieme a un team proveniente da tutta Europa, presenta il progetto You Are Another Me - A Cathedral of the Body. Emerso dall’attuale ricerca dell'artista sulla poetica e la politica dell'intimità e del corpo, il progetto consisterà in un'installazione audiovisiva e un programma pubblico performativo-discorsivo. You Are Another Me - A Cathedral of the Body segna la fase successiva nella ricerca multipiattaforma di Pintilie sull'intimità – iniziata con il suo lungometraggio Touch me not, vincitore dell'Orso d'Oro alla Berlinale 2018 – con la quale l’artista, attraverso un'indagine transdisciplinare a lungo termine, esplora il tema con i diversi linguaggi e piattaforme dell’installazione artistica, performance interattiva, cinema, libro d'artista ed esperienza online.
Statement curatoriale:
La nostra intimità, i nostri corpi sono aspetti essenziali della nostra vita, della nostra soggettività e della nostra comunità, eppure questi soggetti sono circondati da tabù, blocchi, pregiudizi. Oggi, ancora una volta, il corpo è diventato un “campo di battaglia” per le ideologie, un pretesto per varie forme di ansia socio-culturale. La crescente popolarità dei movimenti di destra in tutto il mondo, che attaccano direttamente le nostre origini, il colore della pelle, le credenze, il genere e l'identità sessuale, mette in discussione l'autonomia stessa dei nostri corpi. Il diritto di amare, di muoversi oltre i confini, di accedere agli spazi pubblici, di riprodursi o di rifiutarsi deliberatamente, e di riunirsi liberamente per immaginare insieme un mondo nonviolento sono di nuovo ferocemente in pericolo. Accelerata dalla pandemia, con le tragedie e le profonde divisioni sociali che genera, questa ondata oppressiva sta sconfinando sempre più nei confini della nostra integrità corporea. Perciò è diventato più importante che mai riposizionare il corpo come veicolo di auto-emancipazione, emancipazione e celebrazione della differenza nella solidarietà". L’evento You Are Another Me - A Cathedral of the Body parte del ciclo di conferenze “The Exposed Body”, organizzato dalla Scuola di Dottorato, Curriculum Arti Visive, Performative e Moda dell'Università Iuav di Venezia, si terrà presso Palazzo Badoer, aula Tafuri, lunedì 21 febbraio alle ore 14.30.

Adina Pintilie è un'artista visiva, regista e curatrice che lavora tra la Germania e la Romania. Muovendosi fluidamente tra realtà e finzione, le sue opere emergono da processi di ricerca artistica con un profondo impatto sociale, contraddistinti da un'estetica radicale e da un'esplorazione audace e senza compromessi della psiche umana. Il suo lungometraggio Touch me not ha vinto l'Orso d'Oro alla Berlinale 2018, è stato nominato per l'European Discovery Award agli European Film Academy Awards ed è uscito nelle sale in oltre 40 territori. È stato proiettato nei principali festival e istituzioni culturali come MoMA New York, ICA Institute of Contemporary Art London, Bozar Bruxelles, BFI Londra, IDFA Amsterdam, Toronto Film Festival, Viennale, Harvard Film Archive, Karlovy Vary, Sydney Film Festival e molti altri, con recensioni positive sul New York Times, Hollywood Reporter, Indiewire, Los Angeles Times, Sight & Sound, Télérama, Les Inrockuptibles, Die Welt, Die Zeit ecc. Come artista ospite e mentore, Pintilie ha tenuto masterclass, workshop e conferenze in università ed eventi come KHM Academy of Media Arts Cologne, Stockholm University of the Arts, Berlinale Talents, York University Toronto, National University of Drama and Film Bucharest ecc.
Durante l’incontro, alle ore 17.30, sarà presentata la Call rivolta a studentesse e studenti di laurea magistrale per l’attività di mediazione culturale nel Padiglione Romania della
Biennale Arti.
For the 59th Venice Biennale 2022 - Romanian Participation, artist
and filmmaker Adina Pintilie, together with a team assembled across Europe,
presents the project You Are Another Me - A Cathedral of the Body, an
audio-visual installation and performative-discursive public program that
emerge from the artist's ongoing research on the poetics and politics of
intimacy and the body. The project marks the next stage of Pintilie’s
multi-platform research on intimacy - initiated with her feature film Touch
me not, winner of the Golden Bear at the 2018 Berlinale - a long-term transdisciplinary
inquiry, which the artist explores in the different languages and platforms of
art installation, interactive performance, cinema, artist book and online
experience.
Curatorial Statement:
“Our intimacy, our bodies are essential aspects of our lives, of
our subjectivity and our community, and yet these subjects are surrounded by
taboos, blockages, prejudices. Today, once again, the body has become a
‘battlefield’ for ideologies, a pretext for various forms of
socio-cultural anxiety. The growing popularity of right-wing movements around
the world, which directly attack our origins, skin colour, beliefs, gender and
sexual identity, calls into question the very autonomy of our bodies. The right
to love, to move beyond borders, to access public spaces, to reproduce or to
deliberately refuse to, and to freely gather to jointly imagine a nonviolent world
are again viciously imperiled. Accelerated by the pandemic, with the tragedies
and deepening social divisions it generates, this oppressive wave is further
and further trespassing the boundaries of our bodily integrity. Therefore it
has now become more important than ever to reposition the body as a vehicle for
self-empowerment, emancipation, and the celebration of difference in

The event organized within the framework of the conference series The
Exposed Body by the Doctoral School in Visual, Performing Arts and Fashion
of the Università Iuav di Venezia, will host a project presentation with the artist
in attendance, at Palazzo Badoer, aula Tafuri, on Monday, February 21, from 2.30
pm.

Adina Pintilie is a visual artist, filmmaker and curator
working between Germany and Romania. On the fluid border between reality and
fiction, her works emerge from artistic research processes with a profound
social impact, distinguished by a radical aesthetic and a bold and
uncompromising exploration of the human psyche. Her feature film “Touch
Me Not” won the Golden Bear at
the 2018 Berlinale, was nominated for the European Discovery Award at the
European Film Academy Awards and has been released in cinemas in over 40
territories. It has screened at major festivals and cultural institutions such
as MoMA New York, ICA Institute of Contemporary Art London, Bozar Brussels, BFI
London, IDFA Amsterdam, Toronto Film Festival, Viennale, Harvard Film Archive,
Karlovy Vary, Sydney Film Festival and many more, with positive reviews in the

During the meeting, at 5.30 p.m., there will be the presentation of the
Call addressed to students of the MA degree for the activity of cultural mediation
in the Romanian Pavilion of the Venice Art Biennale.
