If you have a tessera sanitaria (National Health Insurance), you can request a temporary general practitioner (medico di base) for a period ranging from a minimum of three months to a maximum of one year (renewable). To do so, you will need to bring your tessera sanitaria card, ID, and tax code to one of the “GP choice/revocation” offices located in the various districts of the ULSS 3 Serenissima area. If you are coming from another Italian region, you will also need to present a statement confirming the revocation of your previous GP from your former health authority (ULSS).

Starting from September 2025, all students (Italian and international) who are not residents of Venice will have access to a free general medical service. The service will be available three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) at a dedicated clinic located in the former Giustinian Hospital (Dorsoduro 1454).

Students will only have to show a valid certificate of enrollment to access free consultations and prescriptions. The service is also open to students participating in national or international mobility programs. Any costs related to medications or specialist care prescribed during visits will depend on the student’s healthcare coverage.

This initiative is part of a broader student wellbeing project, developed in collaboration with Ca’ Foscari University, Università Iuav di Venezia, ESU (the regional agency for student services), the Academy of Fine Arts, Benedetto Marcello Conservatory, IUSVE, and Ulss 3.

A psychological support service is available through CUORI, the Counseling and Guidance Center of ESU. It offers orientation counseling, psychological support, and effective study training sessions, all conducted by qualified professionals.

The service is free and fully confidential.
