After being validated by the Iuav University of Venice, the application is sent to the relevant Italian diplomatic-consular representations, which you can contact to make an appointment. The representation will issue you a type D entry visafor study "university matriculation."

If you have enrolled with reservations because you do not yet possess the degree or because you are waiting to take the admission test, the representations will still issue you a Type D visa for study.

It is important to know that:

• admission at the university does not, in any way, constitute a guarantee of obtaining an appointment at the diplomatic-consular representations for the submission of visa applications;
• admission to an Iuav course of study does not entitle you to a visa, which is the exclusive responsibility of the diplomatic-consular representations;
• possession of a visa does not entitle you to finalize your enrollment in a course of study, which is the exclusive responsibility of the individual universities;
• admission by the university to a course of study does not entitle the perfection of matriculation, even in cases of obtaining a visa, physical presence on Italian territory, eligibility and/or actual disbursement of scholarships/contributions of any kind, acceptance of the candidate under conditions in order to begin educational activities.

Within eight working days of your arrival in Italy, you must submit an application for a permesso di soggiorno for study to the competent questura in the city where you intend to reside. You will be able to make the application at the post offices, where a special kit is available.

When you present the application at the counter, you will receive a convocation where the day will be indicated on which you must present yourself at the Questura for photo-dactyloscopic surveys.
The receipt of submission of the application for a residence permit will allow you to attest your regular presence in Italy, pending the actual permit.

At least sixty days before the expiration of the permit you will have to apply for renewal for the entire year, by applying to the quaestor of the province in which you are located.
When renewing, you will need to have the required financial coverage, a certificate of enrollment in the university, and all the conditions already stipulated for the issuance of a residence permit.

Student residence permits are renewed if you pass at least one proficiency exam for the first renewal and at least two exams for subsequent renewals.
