Anyone seeking academic recognition of university credits earned through previous enrolment at foreign universities, or who wishes to obtain recognition of the equivalency of a foreign qualification, must follow the procedures outlined below, depending on their specific case.

Recognition of previous exams
It is possible to request recognition of university credits that were not used to obtain the qualification granting access to the degree programme of interest.

In other words, applications may be submitted by:

• students who earned credits during previous academic studies that were not completed (including those applying to transfer to Università Iuav di Venezia);
• students who attended individual courses.

For master’s degree programmes, applications may also be submitted by:

• holders of a single-cycle degree;
• holders of a master’s degree;
• students who previously took exams at master’s level.

To request recognition, candidates must first complete the pre-enrolment procedure for the degree programme and, at the same time, submit an application for the evaluation of their previous academic career. Deadlines and procedures are indicated in the dedicated section of each bachelor’s or master’s degree programme page.

Applicants must usually attach the following documents:

• transcript of records or another official certificate listing the exams taken (duly legalised or apostilled, according to the requirements stated on the page “Documents required for admission to Bachelor's degrees”)
• detailed syllabi of the exams taken

Previous academic records will be assessed by an evaluation committee according to the deadlines indicated on the page “Valutare una carriera pregressa per l’ammissione a un corso di studi”[ITA]. Preliminary evaluations cannot be provided.

Following evaluation by the committee, one of the following outcomes may occur:

• Partial recognition of the previous academic career, resulting in a shortened study plan (the applicant will not have to take the exams corresponding to the recognised activities);
• No recognition, if there is no equivalence between the previous studies and the curriculum of the chosen programme (the applicant will have to take all the required exams).

Applicants who wish to have their previous exams recognised in order to transfer from a foreign university must, in addition to following the provisions in this section, comply with the specific instructions for transfers published on the page “Valutare una carriera pregressa per l’ammissione a un corso di studi”[ITA]. 

Degree equivalency
Università Iuav di Venezia does not issue direct equivalency declarations.

To request recognition of a foreign qualification, applicants must follow the same procedure as for the recognition of previous academic records.

They must pre-enrol in the bachelor’s or master’s degree programme corresponding to the qualification they wish to have recognised and submit an application for the evaluation of their previous academic career.

In such cases, the evaluation committee will assess the entire foreign qualification and may decide to:

1. grant partial recognition: in this case, after enrolment, the applicant will be required to complete any missing components, which may include exams and/or the thesis;
2. grant no recognition.

Recognition of foreign qualifications for access to State Examinations
Applicants who wish to have a foreign qualification recognised in order to sit the Italian State Examination for Architects, Planners, Landscape Architects or Conservators must follow all the procedures outlined above.

This means that they must pre-enrol in the bachelor’s or master’s degree programme required for access to the relevant State Examination, submit their foreign qualification for evaluation as part of their previous academic record and complete any additional exams or thesis work required to obtain the corresponding Italian qualification.

Please note that obtaining the qualification does not automatically confer the right to practise the profession in Italy, but only gives access to the State Examination.
