Esther Giani is an associate professor in Architecture and Urban Design (she prefers Architecture and Urban “Composition” as it is in Italian). Researcher and research fellow at Iuav, where she received her PhD (Semerani, 2005), investigating the National Art Schools in Havana (book: “Il riscatto del Progetto”, 2007). Master at the Berlage Institute (Arets and Mimica; Nuffic Award 2001); degree in architecture supervised by G. Carnevale, with whom she still works (projects exhibited at the Venice Biennale and at the Milan Triennale). Esther Giani spent ample time abroad, studying, researching, and teaching. Practising at A. Cecchetto’s office, in 2010, she closed her associated office.

Since 2007 Esther Giani has been teaching and carrying out research activities at Università Iuav di Venezia. She coordinates research fellows, visiting professors and internationalization programs. She is currently studying the work of P. Guedes and is a member of the research units TEDEA Architectural Theories and Sylva (both run by S. Marini). She coordinated the research “dismissed areas and industrial landscape” (book: “Porto Marghera Atlas”, 2018). She curated the exhibition on paintings by Le Corbusier (“Sconfinamenti. Opere di Le Corbusier allo Iuav di Venezia”, 2017). For the Venice Biennale, she curated the exhibition of Pritzker prize Kéré’s works at the Rwanda Pavilion (book: “Diébédo Francis Kéré. Fare architettura in Africa”, eng. text, 2010); she worked for the German Pavilion and its 27 workshops “Maintenance 1:1” (2023).
