Università Iuav di Venezia has been ranked 14th in the world for Art History in the latest edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject, confirming its position among the leading international institutions in the field. In the Anglo-Saxon academic system, the discipline also includes the History of Architecture.
The rankings, compiled by QS Quacquarelli Symonds, assessed more than 1,900 universities — including 60 from Italy — across over 100 countries and territories, examining 55 academic disciplines.
Compared to last year, Università Iuav di Venezia has also improved its standing in Architecture and Built Environment, moving up from the 51–100 band to 40th place. It ranks 14th in Art History, rises from the 451–500 band to 379th in Arts and Humanities, and is placed in the 151–200 band for Art and Design.
Rector Benno Albrecht commented: “This is a major achievement that confirms Università Iuav di Venezia as a centre of excellence in the fields of Art History and the History of Architecture. These disciplines are part of the University’s DNA and have always stood out for the exceptionally high quality of both research and teaching.
The result also reflects the international standing of Iuav academic staff. The 40th place in Architecture and Spatial Planning marks a significant improvement and points to further positive prospects ahead.
Iuav system continues to demonstrate its ability to innovate and grow across all areas. Iuav model works.”
Due to its size, Università Iuav di Venezia is not included in the overall QS ranking but is evaluated by subject areas using four indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation, research citations per paper and H-index, which measure academic standing, graduate employability, and research impact and productivity.
