From 26 to 28 October at Università Iuav di Venezia, the first session of the seminar of the ASE European research project

On Monday 26 October at 9 a.m., at the Iuav venue of Palazzo Badoer (San Polo 2468, Venice), the first session of the seminar “Processes of design, construction and regeneration of healthcare architecture in the ecumene of the 21st century” opens. The initiative, which continues until Wednesday 28 October, is part of the European research project ASE of the AP-HP chair Archidessa “Architecture, Design, Santé”, with Università Iuav di Venezia.

Greetings at the opening will be given by the rector of Iuav, Benno Albrecht, Giuseppe D’Acunto, director of teaching at Iuav, Gino Gerosa, regional councillor for health and healthcare planning of the Veneto Region, Laurent Le Guedart of AP-HP Assistance Publique Hôpitaux de Paris, and Massimo Zuin, general manager of Azienda ULSS 3 Serenissima. The session is chaired by Maria Chiara Tosi, director of the Iuav Doctoral School, and continues with talks by Alain Sauvanet, Donato Severo, Véronique Boone and Margo Annemans, PierAntonio Val, and the “grands témoins” (key witnesses) Jérôme Brunet and Giorgio Palù.

The design and regeneration of healthcare architecture is a central issue across much of Europe, owing to the rapid development of medical knowledge and techniques and the need to improve the quality of services offered to patients and staff. The research aims to identify the most advanced processes and procedures for managing the entire life cycle of healthcare buildings, from creation to maintenance. The work is interdisciplinary and involves doctors, architects and scholars from other disciplines from Italy, France and Belgium.

The programme includes, on Monday 26 in the afternoon, a visit to the Ospedale SS. Giovanni e Paolo, a historic hospital and museum of medicine. On Tuesday 27, visits are planned to the Ospedale di Dolo and the Ospedale Civile di Mirano, both part of ULSS 3 Serenissima and the specific focus of the research for Italy. On Wednesday 28, at Palazzo Badoer, three sessions will be held on transformations, humanisation, emergencies, community hospitals (case di comunità) and vulnerability, with Italian and European case studies, followed by a debate and conclusions.
