They will design and build large-scale light installations

Now in its 27th edition, “Lights in Alingsås” is a hands-on lighting workshop in which students from all over the world have the chance to enjoy a unique experience, designing and building light installations in the public spaces of the small Swedish town of Alingsås.

The workshop will last one week, from 25 September to 3 October 2026. This year’s theme, “Stories of Love”, was chosen by the organisers to “explore love in all its forms: from the great romantic epics found in books to the love felt for family, for friends and even for pets. We live in a time when the world needs more love. We want to flood visitors with love so that they leave with a warm feeling in their hearts.”

Seven Iuav students from the Master’s degree programme in Product, Communication and Interior Design (Interior Design curriculum) will take part in this edition: Anna Chiara Accorsi, Anna Gennari, Elisa Lattaioli, Martina Dimattia, Giulia Lizza, Paola Pirri and Virginia Rimondi.

The theme and the route of the installations are set in advance by the organisers. Participants, divided into teams and assisted by internationally renowned lighting designers acting as workshop heads, will have the opportunity to try their hand at designing with light, presenting their concepts to the town, testing their ideas through mock-ups, thus gaining valuable hands-on experience in lighting design and creating enchanting light installations.

The installations will be officially inaugurated on 2 October 2026 in the presence of the town’s community and will remain lit for four weeks, until 1 November 2026. Every year, more than a hundred thousand people visit Alingsås to admire the lights and take part in the accompanying events.
