Notes pour un déjeuner sur l’herbe, by students Agnese Cappellazzo and Anna Candiani of the Master’s degree programme in Visual Arts and Expanded Cinema at Università Iuav di Venezia, received a special mention from the Youth Jury at the latest edition of the “Archivio aperto” film festival in Bologna.
The film, made in 2025 within the Documentary Film Lab led by Marco Bertozzi, with assistant Nicoletta Traversa, is a successful experiment in resignifying archival images from the “Open Memory Box” and “RiPrese” collections. Through playful re-evocations of the practice of the picnic, the blending of home movies, painterly images and moments of reenactment takes us to joyful gatherings enjoyed in contact with the ground. Guided by a very resolute and at times pedantic French voice-over, we are precisely initiated into the ritual of the picnic, thanks to a veritable etiquette of eating en plain air, well beyond historical eras.
