At Palazzo Chigi, the meeting on strategies for emergencies and reconstruction in Gaza: Iuav’s design contribution as an integral part of Italy’s commitment
During a meeting on the peace plan for the Gaza Strip held on 15 October at Palazzo Chigi, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani, the design contribution of the Università Iuav di Venezia was recognised as an integral part of Italy’s commitment to the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip and to the revival of a political process aimed at achieving a lasting peace framework.
In his briefing, the Minister stated:
“Since last year, we have allocated €5 million to support reconstruction planning by the Palestinian National Authority, making available the expertise of Venice’s university of architecture. A team of experts is already at work laying the groundwork for the planning phase. In the coming days, a technical mission from the Italian Cooperation will travel to Ramallah to continue coordination with the Palestinian National Authority.”
The reconstruction project promoted by Iuav was also mentioned by Prime Minister Meloni during the summit in Sharm El-Sheikh:
“There are two projects, in particular, on which Italy is focusing its efforts. The first concerns the planning of Gaza’s reconstruction. Presented in October 2024 to Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa and later reiterated by Minister Tajani at the Palestine Humanitarian Conference, held in Pescara during the G7 Development Ministerial Meeting, the project involves UNDP, the Università Iuav di Venezia, and the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation of the Palestinian Authority as partners. Active since early 2025, the programme has already sent two Iuav experts on a three-month mission to Palestine, where an initial study identifying locations for reconstruction hubs has been completed.”
