Università Iuav di Venezia in Olbia to envision the future of the sea: shared scenarios for climate adaptation in north-eastern Sardinia
Olbia, Felix Hotels
The impacts of climate change on coastal and marine ecosystems and activities are making it increasingly clear that adaptation needs to be integrated into planning processes. It is in this context that INCORE-MED, a European project funded by the Interreg Euro-MED Programme, is developing and testing participatory planning methods to strengthen the climate resilience of coastal and marine areas.
On 22 September 2026, as part of the project, Università Iuav di Venezia, in collaboration with Regione Sardegna and Fondazione IMC, will organise the first Scenario Workshop in Olbia dedicated to the case study of north-eastern Sardinia. The event will focus on the joint development of future scenarios for the coastal and marine territory, with particular attention to the impacts of climate change, Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP) and adaptation strategies.
Using the SWAP methodology (Scenario Workshop for Adaptation Planning), local stakeholders will be involved in developing possible adaptation pathways, combining local knowledge and perspectives with information provided by climate modelling. The development of scenarios and multicriteria analysis will make it possible to compare different perspectives and support the definition of shared strategies for the future of coastal and marine spaces.
