Designing in the Age of AI
Seminar by Rachele Didero
Magazzino 6, aula 1.1,1.3
As artificial intelligence increasingly shapes how we perceive, interpret, and interact with the physical world, design faces new questions about the relationship between humans, objects, and machines. This seminar explores how fashion and material practices can become critical tools for investigating these emerging dynamics. Drawing on Rachele Didero’s research and the work of CAPABLE, it examines adversarial textiles and AI-driven visual recognition to explore how materials, patterns, and physical objects can influence machine perception.
Moving beyond the idea of technology as a problem to solve, the seminar considers how design can reveal the limitations, biases, and ambiguities of AI systems. Through the lens of critical design and research-through-design, it opens a broader discussion on privacy, identity, surveillance, and the ethical implications of machine perception, asking how fashion and material experimentation can help us critically engage with an increasingly AI-mediated world.
