You can request a temporary suspension of your studies under the following circumstances:
For the reasons specified in points 1, 2, 3 and 4 above, the request for suspension must be submitted in advance. For the reasons specified in points 5, 6 and 7 above, the request for suspension may be submitted retroactively.
You can request a suspension of your studies for simultaneous enrolment in other programmes which are not covered by Article 17 of the University Student Regulations.
You can also request a suspension to attend programmes at foreign universities.
Further suspension options for students continuing their studies in Italy or abroad may be governed by specific inter-university agreements.
Please note that in accordance with the FAQs issued by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR) on 1 March 2024, if you are simultaneously enrolled in two programmes, your suspension request must apply to both programmes at the same time.
This is without prejudice to your right to waive your simultaneous enrolment by permanently closing your academic position in one of the two programmes, if you fall under the provisions of the Legislative Decree no. 68 of 29 March 2012 and still wish to pursue only one programme.
Academic years of suspension are not counted towards the expiry of student status. They are also excluded when calculating both academic merit and the time limits for financial aid applications.
During the suspension period, students cannot take any academic actions or access educational and administrative services related to the suspended programme.
You can request the suspension of studies for a minimum of one academic year. The maximum duration cannot exceed the normal length of the degree programme plus one year.
To apply for the suspension of studies, all due tuition fees must be fully paid, and all passed exams must be officially registered in your records.
You must complete the official application form and submit it in person to the Main Registry and Protocol Office (Archivio generale/ufficio protocollo) located in Venice, Santa Croce 191 Tolentini – 30135.
A 16.00 euros tax stamp (marca da bollo) must be attached to the form.
Alternatively, you can send the form and the tax stamp by post to the same office address.
