For Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes, English language proficiency is generally assessed by passing an exam (English language or additional language skills) to obtain ECTS credits of type E and/or F.
Alternatively, students may apply for the recognition of ECTS credits by submitting a legally recognised language certificate through the “Language Certification” Google Form.
Students wishing to apply for credit recognition must check the minimum language proficiency level and the corresponding ECTS credit type specified in the Study programme regulations for their degree programme and cohort.
As specified in the Study programme regulations, language certificates are accepted only if they are issued by a certification body accredited by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR). The Ministry provides a list of officially recognised English language certification bodies on its dedicated webpage.
Please also note that a language certificate may be used only once during a student's entire university career.
In particular, a language certificate recognising ECTS credits in a Bachelor's degree programme cannot be accepted for credit recognition in a Master's degree programme. Likewise, a language certificate used for admission to a Master's degree programme will not be recognised as an alternative to the English language exam (additional language skills).
Exception: a Bachelor's degree obtained after completing the entire programme in English is considered valid both for admission to Master’s degree programmes requiring English language proficiency at B2 level or above, and for the recognition of type F ECTS credits for additional language skills (English), where applicable.
