Students who have undertaken a university degree programme and who, for any reason, interrupt their studies and do not take any examinations for eight consecutive academic years, shall forfeit their student status.

The forfeiture period is extended by 50% for students with a recognised disability of 66% or higher, or with a disability recognised under article 3, paragraph 1 of Italian law no. 104 of 5 February 1992, as well as for those enrolled as part-time or student-athletes.
In all cases, students are advised to contact the Student Administration directly to clarify the current status of their academic records.

To prevent forfeiture, students must take an examination, even if unsuccessful, as long as the result is officially recorded.

Forfeiture does not apply to students who only need to complete their final examination.

Following forfeiture, students may re-enrol on the same or another degree programme at a later date. Any credits earned during the study period subject to forfeiture cannot be recognised or transferred to a new academic career.
Forfeiture does not apply to students who request and are granted an internal transfer to another degree programme before the forfeiture deadline.
Periods of study interruption do not suspend the calculation of years towards forfeiture.

Extending the forfeiture deadline is permitted only in cases of severe, prolonged and documented medical conditions, upon formal application to the Rector.

Students whose status has been forfeited may request academic transcripts or certificates covering their past studies, which will explicitly state that their academic career has been forfeited.

Students, whether enrolled within the standard duration of their programme or beyond it, may formally withdraw from their degree programme at any time.
They are not required to pay any outstanding tuition fees, but any financial aid or scholarships incorrectly awarded must be repaid.
Furthermore, fees already paid will not be refunded, even if the student withdraws before the end of the academic year.

Withdrawal is irrevocable and cancels the student’s academic career, voiding all exams taken up to that point.

Withdrawal must be submitted using the form available at the bottom of this page, also via registered mail with return receipt, to:
