History:

The Archivio Progetti was founded in 1987, when the Design Departement of the Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia promoted the establishement of an exhibition gallery and an architectural design archive at the Angelo Masieri foundation, appointing Luciano Semerani as Director. In 1992 was set up the Archivio Progetti Interdepartmental Services Centre, run by a Director and a Technical Scientific Committee which consists of representatives of the IUAV departments. The Archivio Progetti is a centre for didactics and research which acquires, catalogues and keeps architectural archives, offers an on-line catalogue and organizes temporary exhibitions in its gallery, where the models collection is permanently on display.

The seat:

The Archivio Progetti is hosted in an old cotton-mill, on the Canale della Giudecca. The building was opened in 1883, one year after that a society had been founded in Venice with the aim to carry on the spinning of cotton.

The factory, which employed about 1,000 people, was closed in 1960 and the building abandoned. Restored in the Nineties on a project by the Gino Valle studio, the main building hosts today a large part of the Universitą Iuav of Venice: lecture-halls, the Design Department and the Archivio Progetti.

The collections:

The Archivio Progetti keeps architectural archives, with drawings, models, photographs, papers, books and recordings). It acquires them mainly from architets, but also engineers, town planners, photographers and corporates. The main archives are:
