> SkAT-VG: Sketching Audio Technologies using Vocalizations and Gestures

The SkAT-VG project aims at enabling designers to use their voice and hands, directly, to sketch the auditory aspects of an object, thereby making it easier to exploit the functional and aesthetic possibilities of sound. The core of this framework is a system able to interpret users' intentions trough gestures and vocalizations, to select appropriate sound synthesis modules, and to enable iterative refinement and sharing, as it is commonly done with drawn sketches in the early stages of the design process. To reach its goal, the SkAT-VG project is based on an original mixture of complementary expertise: voice production, gesture analysis, cognitive psychology, machine learning, interaction design, and audio application development. The project tasks include case studies of how people naturally use vocalizations and gestures to communicate sounds, evaluation of current practices of sound designers, basic studies of sound identification trough vocalizations and gestural production, gesture analysis and machine learning, and development of the sketching tools.


> PRIN2011: Architectural Perspective: digital preservation, content access and analytics

The objective of the research project is the preservation, the study and the popularisation of the Architectural Perspectives (AP). The project pursues this aim through the development and the application of the most advanced communication technologies (ICT).


> PRIN2008: Descriptive geometry and digital representation: memory and innovation

Digital representation may be, for descriptive geometry, what the telescope was for astronomy at the time of Galileo, thus inducing a similar process of disciplinary renovation. The project aims at inducing a process of integration and development that may trigger such renovation in scientific representation for architecture and design.


> Action COST-IC0601 on Sonic Interaction Design

Sonic Interaction Design is the exploitation of sound as one of the principal channels conveying information, meaning, and aesthetic/emotional qualities in interactive contexts. Research activities focus on sound perception and cognition, design practices, evaluation methods and quality assessment, technologies exploration.

The COST Action ICO6O1 on Sonic Interaction Design (SID) was launched in 2007 to provide an interdisciplinary platform of discussion and collaboration between scientists, artists and designers in the European Research Area.


> Continuous Sonic Interaction

Continuous interaction and multisensory feedback are important attributes of interactive artefacts. Explorations in interaction design are collected in order to exploit the value of a Basic Design approach, formulate design problems in terms of exercises, develop workbenches, and collect a useful repertoire of design ideas and concepts. Hearing is the privileged sensory channel for the proposed examples.
