The graduate degree is a two-year, second level university
graduate degree title.
This degree pertains to all disciplines, except those
subjected to special academic regulations co-ordinated on an European level:
medicine, veterinary science, for which students directly enrol in a graduate
course of 6 or 5 years respectively.
The graduate degree programme provides a good basis,
as well as a title of admission, for continuing graduate research and studies
at PhD level.
The Italian law n. 210 of 1998 has greatly reformed
graduate research by giving universities complete responsibility in planning
and management, and by creating advanced research course programmes (usually
three-years in length) aimed at preparing cultural, scientific and professional
elites for university research professions, and professions in the public and
private industry sectors.
After graduate degree programmes, it is also possible
to pursue 1-year university master programmes or graduate programmes designed
for specific professions.
