with 3 tracks:
- environmental planning and policy
(Inter-University Graduate Degree Programme in Environmental Planning and Policy)
- regional planning and new technologies
urban and regional planning
what is taught?
The
graduate degree in Urban and Regional Planning and Policy produces senior urban
designers and planners capable of assessing the problems of today’s
cities and territories and of defining projects and tools through which they
can be protected and transformed in accordance with the logic of public
governance.
how is it taught and what is achieved?
The
programme is organised around three studio courses. The first is focused on
policy design and teaches students how to develop public actions and political
strategies with the support of two integrated courses on the players, processes
and tools of planning analysis and design. The second addresses issues of urban
revitalisation and is supported by coursework on the history of the city and
urban planning and design techniques. The third workshop simulates a typical
design project with the support of courses on urban ecology and comparative
international case studies.
after the graduate degree
Graduates
in Urban and Regional Planning and Policy are qualified to take the Italian
licensing exam to enrol Section A–Planners of the Register of Architects,
Planners, Conservationists and Landscape Architects (Dpr 328/2001).
They are
prepared to work as consultants, independent professionals, managers or civil
servants in public administrations and in the private sector. They are skilled
in designing planning tools, carrying out urban and regional studies, assessing
and monitoring projects, plans, programmes and policies, and designing public
policy.
Graduates
who intend to pursue further studies are prepared to do postgraduate
internships in Italy or abroad, to enrol in postgraduate specialisation or
training programmes and, if their primary interest is research, to apply to the
Iuav School of Doctorate Studies or other doctoral programmes in Italy and
abroad.

regional planning and new technologies
The degree programme
responds to the growing demand for innovation in watching over the Earth and in
managing geographic data and the environment.
Distance learning courses
train students as professionals who are
skilled in designing geographic information systems for decision making,
and who are capable of creating and maintaining complex geographic databases and
of using software tools for treating and sharing geographic data and information
with the aid of Geographic Information Systems.
If you work, or cannot
attend class regularly, distance learning allows you to pursue a university
degree programme that combines lessons
broadcast over two digital satellite channels (Rai Sat Nettuno 1 and 2) with
in-class practice on the most up-to-date technology. Individual tutors are
available for each subject and may be reached by email, phone or fax, or by
appointment.
Professional opportunities abound: digital systems management and
control, environmental and risk systems monitoring, city maintenance,
information points, soil conservation, civil defense, traffic and transport
management, and the updating of geographic survey data.
