Climatorium. Architect as Meteorologist

Architecture is the art of building climates.

Men inhabit invisible air and not visible walls. The purpose of architecture is the void space we enter and not inaccessible walls. Through its own knowledge, architecture modifies a section of natural climate, sweetens a certain amount of the earth’s atmosphere, anthropising a natural space.

The whole breadth of architecture is to elaborate thermal, hygrometric, chemical and electromagnetic measurements. Architect must design climates rather than geometrical shapes.

The Climatorium, a 3500 square-meters building, is the visitor centre of Taichung Central Park in Taiwan. The architecture of the Climatorium itself, its constructive mode, assumes and reveals the role and primary climatic mission of architecture.
