Titolo:
The ideal for users would be a free access to bibliographic references
Abstract:
- The ideal for users would be a free
access to bibliographic references, with a unique lexicon or even a
multilingual thesaurus, so that various databases can be searched all together
(even though databases are supplied by different producers and are stored in
different servers) and charging only the access to full-text documents. Utopia
or a feasible plan?
- As it happens with other disciplinary
fields, the production of information can be clearly distinguished into two
separate blocks: Europe and USA. Which is the relationship between the two? Is
it worthy to talk about competitive information policies?
- Integration of various databases with
different library search tools (opac). Is this integration of any interest? Are
there any examples, solutions or assumptions?
- The sale of bibliographic references or
original documents: some producers/distributors charge only for documents, not
for references. Which are the market policy trends?
- Royalties and copyright regulations in
different countries: which are the consequences for distribution policy and
digital access?
- Access to original documents (current
and retrospective): trends, assumptions and policy.
- Agreements between publishers and
e-journals distributors.
- Relationship with professionals.
- Problems concerning the integrated
access to information resources, i.e, the overcoming of a “distinct catalogue
for any kind of material”, “local and remote resources”, “traditional documents
and e-documents”, with particular reference to new standards and protocols
(Open Access, Z39.50, etc.).
