Angela Vettese (Italy 1959) is  based in Milan and Venice.

 

She directs The Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro in Milan since 2009.

She has directed the Galleria Civica di Modena since july 2005.

She is President of the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa in Venice since july 2002.

She is part of the Scientific Committee for the Punta dela Dogana - Palazzo Grassi in Venice.

 

In 2009 she has been the president of the Jury for the 53rd Mostra Internzionale d'Arte, Biennale di Venezia.

 

In 2008 she has been part of the Honour Committee for the Yokohama Triennial.

She teaches  Art Theory and History as associate professors at Iuav University in Venice, Faculty of Arts and Design, where is is the founder and  director of the Visual Art Graduate Programme.

 

She has been teaching for the Universitą Commerciale Luigi Bocconi in Milan (2000-2007) and for Fine Arts italian Academies in Milan, Venice and Bergamo.

She has been Curator in Visual Arts for the Antonio Ratti Foundation in Como (1995-2003).

 

She has been part of the Scientific Committee of teh Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Torin and of the Premio Furla, Venice.

 

Since 1986 she is art critic for "La Domenica" , cultural supplement of the economical newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore.

 

She has curated and co-curated shows as independent curator and in the institutions she is leading.

 

She has written  essays in catalogues for many institutions (Biennale di Venezia , 1993, 1997, 2003. Moca, Los Angeles. Serpentine Gallery, London; Magasin, Grenoble, and others). She has written essays  for different catalogues and publishers (Charta, Hatje Cantz, Steidl, Koenig, Skira, Richter Phaidon, and others) on such artists as  Joseph Kosuth, Alighero Boetti, Piero Manzoni, William Kentridge, Marina Abramovic,  Hamish Fulton, Allan Kaprow, Karen Kilimnik, Roni Horn, Mark Dion,  Katharina Grosse, Heimo Zobernig, John Armleder, Haim Steinbach, Ugo Mulas, Rebecca Horn, Yoko Ono, Yayoi Kusama, Maja Bajevic, Magdalena Abakanowicz, Cristina Iglesias, and others.

She has written extensively on the relation between art and art system, mainly in book as Investire in arte - produzione, promozione e mercato dell'arte contemporanea (Milan: Il sole 24 ore edizioni 1991 e 1993; transalted into spanish form the Universidad Politecnica de Valencia, 2002) ;  Capire l'arte contemporanea (Torino: Allemandi, 1996 and 2006) Artisti si diventa (Roma: Carocci 1998 e 2008); A cosa serve l'arte contemporanea (Torino: Allemandi 2001) . She has written survey on the art of XX century together with Gillo Dorfles (Arti Visive, Il Novecento, 2 vol. , Bergamo: Atlas, 200 and 2005) Ma questo e" un quadro, Rome, Carocci ) She has written for the most important italian Enciclopedia (Esposizioni and Body Art, Enciclopedia Italiana,  Rome, Treccani).

 

Angela Vettese graduated  Magna cum Laude from the Universitą degli Studi, Milan, Faculty of  Letters and Philosophy, in 1983. Her master thesis was in History of Medieval Philosophy.  She studied also Contemporary Art at the Universitą Cattolica, where she graduated in 1991 with a thesis on the use of the everyday objects in postwar experimental art.
