Silvio Nocera Ŕ professore associato di economia applicata presso il Dipartimento di Culture del Progetto dell’UniversitÓ Iuav di Venezia. Si Ŕ laureato con lode in Ingegneria Civile presso l'UniversitÓ della Basilicata nel 2000 e ha conseguito il dottorato di ricerca con lode in Trasporti presso la Technische Universitńt MŘnchen (2004). ╚ stato assegnista di ricerca allo Iuav fino al 2010, anno in cui Ŕ diventato ricercatore universitario in “Trasporti”, prima di ricoprire dal giugno 2016 l’attuale posizione.

 

Presso lo Iuav tiene corsi di Trasporti (dal 2007) e di Pianificazione dei Trasporti (dal 2014). Ha tenuto inoltre lezioni o seminari all’interno del Master “Transportation Systems” della Technische Universitńt MŘnchen (2008-2016), presso il Dipartimento di Pianificazione dei Trasporti della Technische Universitńt Wien di Vienna (2015), alla Sauder School of Business della University of British Columbia di Vancouver (2016), presso la FacoltÓ di Trasporti della Gediminas Technical University di Vilnius (2016), alla FacoltÓ di Ingegneria Civile ed Ambientale della Drexel University di Philadelphia (2017). SarÓ anche visiting professor presso il Dipartimento di Trasporti del Politecnico di Atene (estate 2017).

 

I suoi interessi di ricerca investono la valutazione economica dei sistemi di trasporto, i costi esterni del trasporto (ha approfondito particolarmente la valutazione dell’anidride carbonica e dei suoi effetti sul global warming), big data e trasporti, i sistemi di trasporto pubblico a domanda debole, il trasporto merci e l’intermodalitÓ, i sistemi telematici di trasporto (ITS), e la valutazione della qualitÓ del trasporto pubblico. Ha pubblicato un numero considerevole di articoli scientifici, di cui pi¨ di 30 peer-reviewed. I suoi lavori sono stati pubblicati su alcune importanti riviste del settore, come Transport Policy, Transportation Research Part C: Emerging Technologies, Transportation Research Part D: Transport and Environment, Transportation Research Part F: Traffic Psychology and Behaviour, Research in Transportation Economics, Journal of Advanced Transportation, Carbon Management. Inoltre, egli Ŕ membro del comitato scientifico dell’ITEA (International Transportation Economics Association), fa parte dell’editorial board delle riviste “European Transport\Trasporti Europei” ed “Heliyon”, ed Ŕ risultato vincitore dell’edizione 2016 del Canadian-Italian Innovation Award promosso dal Governo del Canada, con il progetto “The effects of climate change on transportation and adaptation policies”.

 

La sua ricerca ha recentemente attratto rilevanti finanziamenti, attraverso i progetti di ricerca Mobilitas (2016-2019), Smile (2017-2019) e Smart-Commuting (2017-2020), tutti co-finanziati dall’Unione Europea. ╚ stato inoltre revisore per alcune importanti riviste, fra cui European Journal of Operational Research, Journal of Transport Geography, Research in Transportation Economics, Transport Policy, Transportation Research Part A: Policy and Practice, Transportation Research Part D: Transport and Environment, Transportation Research Part E: Logistics and Transportation Review. ╚ stato anche revisore di progetti per conto del Governo della Lettonia, di due diversi programmi Interreg, ed in varie occasioni per il Ministero dell’Istruzione, dell’UniversitÓ e della Ricerca. Infine, ha partecipato al programma di pi¨ di 50 conferenze e workshop internazionali.

Silvio Nocera is an Associate Professor of Applied Economics in the Department of Architecture and Arts at the UniversitÓ Iuav di Venezia. He graduated with honors in Civil Engineering from University of Basilicata in 2000, and earned his PhD with honors in Transport Planning at the Technische Universitńt MŘnchen (2004). He was a research fellow at the UniversitÓ Iuav di Venezia until 2010, while also moving to the Chair of Traffic Engineering and Control at the Technische Universitńt MŘnchen as a post-doctoral Research Fellow (2009-2010). In October 2010, he became an Assistant Professor of Transport Engineering at Iuav. He was promoted in the current position in June 2016.

 

At the UniversitÓ Iuav di Venezia, he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on Transport (since 2007), and Transport Planning (since 2014). In addition, he held lectures and seminars in the MSc course in Transportation Systems at the Technical University of Munich (2008-2016), in the Department of Transport Planning at the Technical University of Vienna (2015), in the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver (2016), in the Faculty of Transport at the Gediminas Technical University of Vilnius (2016), and in the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Drexel University of Philadelphia (2017). He will also be a visiting professor at the Department of Transport of the National Technical University of Athens (summer 2017).

 

His research interests are quite extensive, spanning the economic evaluation of transport systems, the external costs of transportation (he delved particularly deep into the evaluation of carbon dioxide and its effects on global warming), big data and transport, demand responsive transport systems, freight and intermodal transport, intelligent transport systems, and transit quality evaluation. Silvio has a considerable publication record, including 30 peer-reviewed scientific papers, and his works have been published in some major journals, such as Transport Policy, Transportation Research Part C: Emerging Technologies, Transportation Research Part D: Transport and Environment, Transportation Research Part F: Traffic Psychology and Behaviour, Research in Transportation Economics, Journal of Advanced Transportation, Carbon Management. He is a member of the scientific committee of ITEA (International Transportation Economics Association), part of the editorial board of the journals “European Transport\Trasporti Europei” and “Heliyon”, and received the 2016 Canadian-Italian Innovation Award from the Government of Canada presenting the project “The effects of climate change on transportation and adaptation policies”.

 

Silvio’s research has attracted substantial funding within a research grant portfolio that includes the EU co-funded research projects Mobilitas (2016-2019), Smile (2017-2019), and Smart-Commuting (2017-2020). He was a reviewer for several important journals, such as European Journal of Operational Research, Journal of Transport Geography, Research in Transportation Economics, Transport Policy, Transportation Research Part A: Policy and Practice, Transportation Research Part D: Transport and Environment, Transportation Research Part E: Logistics and Transportation Review. He has acted as a reviewer also for some funding organizations including the Government of Latvia, Interreg Program Italy-Slovenia, Interreg Program South-East Europe, and in various occasions for the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research. As well, he served in the program and organisation committees of more than 50 international conferences and workshops.
