Maria Chiara Tosi, PhD in Urbanistica (1996 Roma La Sapienza), visiting researcher presso il College of Environmental Design alla UC Berkeley (USA), č professore ordinario di Urbanistica. All’Universitā Iuav di Venezia coordina l’ambito di ricerca Urbanistica nel Dottorato in Architettura, Cittā e Design, e il cluster di ricerca CityLab.

 

Rappresenta Iuav nell’Academic Council della Venice International University, č membro del Centro Studi Internazionale URBES (Iuav-Tongji University – Shanghai) ed č esperto valutatore per l’Agenzia della ricerca FWO-Research Foundation Flanders in Belgio.

 

Dal 2015 al 2018 č stata vice-presidente di VEGA-Parco Scientifico e Tecnologico di Venezia.

Č stata co-curatrice del padiglione Venezia alla XVI Biennale di Architettura di Venezia, co-curatrice del padiglione “Waterfront” nell’ambito della Shanghai Urban Space Art Season (SUSAS 2017), e della mostra “A way into a Cloud City” alla Bi-city Biennale Shenzhen in Cina (2019).

 

Nell’ambito di progetti di ricerca nazionali (PRIN, FSE) e internazionali (Interreg, Horizon 2020) la sua attivitā di ricerca riguarda le forme e i processi di trasformazione dei territori della dispersione insediativa, il rapporto tra politiche di welfare e costruzione dello spazio urbano, le nuove forme del lavoro in ambito urbano, la costruzione di strumenti di governance per territori fragili (Laguna di Venezia). Affianca la ricerca con attivitā di consulenza per la redazione di piani e progetti urbanistici (Venezia, Brescia, Pesaro, Macerata, Ferrara, Casarano, Belluno e Feltre).

 

Fa parte dell’editorial board del Journal of Architecture and Urbanism e dell’International Advisory Board del e-Journal of Urban and Landscape Planning.

Maria Chiara Tosi, PhD in Urbanism (La Sapienza Rome 1996), Visiting Researcher at the college of Environmental Design UC Berkeley (1994-95 USA), is Full Professor in Urban Design. At Universitā Iuav di Venezia she is also scientific coordinator of the PhD in Urbanism and head of the Research Cluster CityLab.

 

She is Iuav representative in Venice International University, member of URBES-Urban Rural Environmental Research Lab, (Iuav University – Tongji University), and Expert for the Panel “Science and Technology of Constructions and the Built Environment” at the Research Foundation Flanders FWO-Belgium.

 

Her principal research interests focus on the study of the evolution of urban settlements and on the relationship between welfare policies and the city: on these topics she has undertaken various research projects. She is currently focusing on how the climate crisis affects both the physical and the socio-economic aspects of urban environments. Amongst others, she is the scientific coordinator of the Interreg Project CREW (Coordinated Wetland management in Italy-Croatia cross border region), partner in the Interreg project DIVA (Development of ecosystems and value chains of innovation: support cross-border innovation through Creative Industries), and partner in the project CITIES 2030 funded by the European Commission.

 

She co-curated several expositions: “A way into a Cloud City” at the Bi-city Biennale Shenzhen, China 2019; Venice Pavillon at the 16th Biennale di Architettura di Venezia, Venice, Italy 2018; WATERFRONT Pavillon, at the Shanghai Urban Space Art Season, Shanghai, China 2017; “Caoyang New Village” at the Shanghai Urban Space Art Season, Shanghai, China 2015.

 

She is member of the editorial board of two international journals: Journal of Architecture and Urbanism and E-journal of Urban and Landscape Planning (University of Leuven, Belgium).

 

To date, she has contributed to more than 100 publications since 1990. Those included authors of books, book chapters, and articles in flagship journals.
