Founded in Rome (Italy) in 2001 by Andrea Quagliola, Matteo Monteduro and Emiliano Roia, MORQ* is a small-scale design practice committed to experimentation in contemporary architecture through professional practice as well as through university research and teaching.
MORQ*’s current work comprises mainly small/medium-scale residential projects as well as international design competitions.
MORQ* established a satellite office in 2003 in Perth (Australia), where Andrea Quagliola and Emiliano Roia are Lecturers in Architecture at The University of Western Australia.
We are mostly concerned with experimenting with materials and facts of architecture: we have always given priority to build-able projects, through which we could experiment and learn. We developed a strong interest in residential architecture and in how our projects could challenge the notion of domestic living.
In December 2007 the competition entry for the Cottesloe Surf Life Saving Club produced by Spaceagency in collaboration with MORQ* was awarded the first prize.
In October 2008 MORQ* was invited to exhibit at Abundant Exhibition, Australian Pavilion at the 11th International Architecture Exhibition at the Venice Biennale.
In March 2008 MORQ* was awarded a Special Mention at the Shinkenchiku Residential Competition.
In September 2009 MORQ* was shortlisted at REAL CHALLENGE COMPETITION organized by LANDCORP (Western Australian Land Authority).
At present MORQ* has several buildings and residences under construction both in Australia and in Italy.
